ankydyn gallery is proud to present Sprouting & Rerouting, a gallery group exhibition at Freelancers Union’s NYC Hub in Industry City. Opening on March 11, 2026 5-8pm, the show frames transformation as an ongoing condition: a continual negotiation in which new possibilities arise by bending, reconfiguring, and finding alternate ways forward. It takes neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to adapt by forming new connections and redirecting existing pathways) as both a conceptual framework and a metaphor for artistic process.
In neuroscience, sprouting refers to the growth of new neural fibers, while rerouting describes signals finding alternative paths when established routes are disrupted. Together, these mechanisms allow continuity through change, enabling adaptation without erasure.
The artists in the exhibition (Andree Brown, Eric Hagan, Jim Schutte, Noa Bornstein, Paul O'Malley and Shushanik Karapetyan) engage parallel processes through form, gesture, material and subject. Across sculpture, drawing, painting and photography, growth appears as intuitive, responsive, and non-linear. Rather than presenting change as a resolved outcome, the works here emphasize process: emergence shaped by pressure, interruption, and adjustment.
