M&MDB Films

The creation of Michel and Mikey Dominguez Beddome, M&MDB Films is a home for bold, auteur-driven cinema. We reject disposable storytelling in favor of work that is layered, sculptural, and unafraid of stillness, contradiction, and rooted in the raw emotion of the human condition. We create dreamworlds not unlike our own and invite you to step into them, live in them, even if just for a moment.

Room 14

We have many ideas—as humans—of who we are. What we are. We are heroes, we are villains. Brave. Cowards. Slinking in the background, conquering Everest, making waves.

Everyday we wake up to Newsfluencers shouting into their ringlights: “the Pope was arrested for giving out soup in an Alabama food kitchen when it was determined some of the ingredients were obtained via tax-payer funded donation centers,” before we order boutique donuts for delivery from 3.5 miles away across a bridge.

We are living in an alternate reality. A timeline of hyper-reality, and non-reality.

Enter: the Hotel.

What is a hotel but a place that is a surrogate for your most safe space, your home? Many amenities permeate this experience—cozy bedding, fridges holding the little sweet treats before bed, a view from a window of society moving along without you.

It is a surreal room that resembles your home and behaves that way, while remaining entirely a rented liminal space.

You flip on the TV and disparate images of entertainment or news or history flood your vision… while with each push of your remote, you control what version of reality you allow into yourself.

But in this hotel room, with each clicking, we are revisited by Fo, a thirty-something woman. She presents in many iterations under different names, and all are real and none are real. They exist in the hyper-real.

This is Room 14. An experiment in liminal expression by M&MDB.
