Jim Schutte’s work defies the weight and solidity traditionally associated with sculpture. In his compositions, color floats, form bends effortlessly, and structure exists in a state of flux. With references that evoke cosmic landscapes, organic movement, and dreamlike abstraction, his visual language creates a space where physicality is no longer fixed, but instead vibrates with a sense of expansion and transformation.
From celestial swirls to rhythmic curves, Schutte’s pieces invite into a realm where pure physical gesture becomes form, and mass gives way to motion. His body of work exists between dimensions—weightless yet present, structured yet fluid, reimagining the relationship between materiality and image-making, and dissolving the boundaries between sculpture and painting.
Based in Long Island City, NY, Schutte regularly exhibits throughout the Queens area, and most recently in Brooklyn, as part of The Other Art Fair (May 2025). His work resides in private collections across North America and Europe.
